1
Daniel was a
Year 10 student at a local Senior High School who was very capable
and creative with his hands but not interested in more academic
studies. His very skilled work with wood had everyone thinking that
he should follow a career as a carpenter. With an educAID Advisor he
explored his possibilities and after completing the JIIG-CAL
questionnaires he was presented with a list of careers and topping
the list was a LOCKSMITH. He had not considered this occupation
previously and decided to look at it further. The result is that
Daniel has now completed the first year of his apprenticeship as a
Locksmith and is extremely happy with his
decision.

Margaret was employed as a
receptionist for a group of doctors and was very capable in her
position. She was very busy at work and enjoyed her interaction with
the clients, but found that the heavy demand for computer work was
an aspect of the job which she did not enjoy. Her session with the
educAID Advisor was an exploration of her options and the additional
study she may be required to complete if she followed a different
direction. Margaret’s possible career list included an OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPIST, which gave her closer association with her clients a nd a more practical involvement.
She has followed the pathway
suggested by her educAID Advisor and is currently in the midst of
her studies, very happy with her decision.

Phil was 39 and the Father of a small
son. His work as a settlement clerk was not fulfilling and he wanted
to explore some other options. He was aware that he had possibly 20
more years in the workforce and wanted to enjoy going to work each
day. With an educAID Advisor Phil completed the questionnaires and
discussed the factors he wanted in a workplace. His list of possible
options included that of a PRIMARY TEACHER. After discussion with
his wife, who was willing to be the family income earner while he
completed full-time studies, Phil enrolled in University and is
about to complete his studies as a Primary School Teacher. He has
really enjoyed his studies and his placement as a “practice” teacher
and is looking forward to having a class of his own next
year.
